Santa Fe River at Project Preserve in La Cieneguilla

(A monitoring location of the NM Watershed Watch project)

Monitored by Santa Fe Girls School and science teacher, Megan Auer-Morvillius. The Santa Fe Girls School has made this site a premier restoration and service learning location. One important project the girls have initiated is studying and trying to protect a beaver colony which has increased the wet area and height of the water table substantially. The site was formerly covered by Russian olives, elms, and tamarisk and now is mostly vegetated with willows, cottonwoods, and native grasses.
